Living For Poetry
by: Aaron Gunther
This is more than poetry, it's the moonlight upon my lips, it's this morning's dew released from my fingertips. It's the summer rain that cleanses my flesh, it's the smell of a wild orchard that fills my chest. You see, poetry is in the air I breathe. And every time I sneeze I leave you mesmerized by its gentle breeze. So be careful, because it's highly contagious. From the sound waves of my voice to the inscriptions on these pages. All the way to the secret thoughts that roam your conscience, to the adrenaline rush that results from its presence. Poetry is love and hate, pain and joy. It's the hormones running wild in a thirteen year old boy. It's breast milk to an infant, water to a plant. It's that down south, Montgomery civil rights chant. It's that feel in your stomach that touches your heart, it's the beginning, the end, and a brand-new start. Poetry is energy, emotion, life itself. So I relive through my poems gaining knowledge of myself. Gaining lovers of my work, volunteers for my cause. To resurrect Langston Hughes and to hear him speak through my jaws. To open your eyes and help you to see, that we eat, sleep, and live amongst poetry.
