My Reality
by: Andrew Green, Jr.
A child, forced to become a man... and substitute
love with hate.
Only 18! And I was condemned to walk through
these gates.
And as I walked, cold-heavy chains burdened my
wrist, ankles, and waist.
And though 12 winters ago, I can still feel the wind
stinging my face.
It was the middle of winter, but the cold wasn't why
I shook.
I shook out of fear, for the bleakness in which my
future looked.
Cause what I saw had me in awe, it was a scene so
unbelievably raw.
Gun towers and rifles, a wall so unconceivably
tall.
But what I saw was only a glimpse, of what was
to be.
Fist fights and hungry nights was what I
was to see.
Such pain, such strain, such a reality was hard
to accept.
Under the pressure I cracked, caught a life sentence
but wish it was death.
But don't believe the hype, because they've falsely
accused me.
Yet and still, though false, that's the reason they
use this hole to abuse me.
Now I stare out this window, reminiscing and yearning
at the sky.
Either too strong, too dead or too stupid to cry
tears from my eyes.
