Paper Wings
by: Ronald W. Clark, Jr.

Paper wings and childhood dreams,
And life is never what it seems:
Seeing life through a child's eyes,
Paper wings and blue skies.

And at a tender, tender age,
We're taught to love and to hate,
Or even discriminate.

And as we approach adolescence,
We see life in its true essence,
Death and devastation,
Or experience molestation.

Changing views, changing thoughts,
Maybe even becoming distraught,
Broken promises, paper wings,

False hope of childhood dreams,
That's the way life truly seems.
